Hawzah News Agency –The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held the Intergovernmental Group of Experts meeting that considers the draft document of the mid-term review of the OIC-2025 Program of Action, at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat on 27-28 December 2021. The mid-term review of implementation of the OIC-2025 Program of Action comes under the title (Road to 2025: Gains, Challenges and Opportunities).

Dr. Ahmad Sengendo, the OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, delivered the speech of the OIC Secretary-General, H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, in which he stressed that the paramount importance of having a core multi-dimensional development program, such as the OIC-2025 Program of Action, is apparent in light of recent challenges and major crises facing the Muslim world.

The Secretary-General's speech stressed that as the OIC is going through the second term of the period covered by the OIC-2025 Program of Action, the Program now is at a critical point, as it is necessary to conduct an in-depth study of the status of progress in its implementation at national levels in order to highlight the gains made, lessons learned, and challenges encountered in addition to initiatives needed to overcome these challenges.

The speech pointed out that the report presented to the meeting indicated that remarkable progress had been made in implementing the OIC-2025 Program of Action in several priority areas, including intra-OIC trade, tourism, investment, agriculture and food security, education, health, good governance, human rights, science, technology and innovation, empowerment of women, information and communication technology and others.

It is worth noting that the OIC-2025 Program of Action (2016-2025), approved by the 13th Session of the Islamic Summit held in Istanbul, in 2016, comes in continuation of the initial Ten-Year Program of Action (2005-2016), launched by the Third Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference held in Makkah in December 2005.
